Chapter 97ChrP.4.97

De destructione castri Cruceburgk.

The Fall of Cruceburgk

After a three-year siege, the brothers secretly abandon Cruceburgk, only to be pursued and massacred by the Prussians, with only two surviving.

In the same year of our Lord, 1261, the castle Cruceburgk had been besieged by the Nattangians for three years with three siege engines and three bulwarks. After many glorious battles waged there, the brothers, together with their household, withdrew from the castle in secret by night, their provisions having entirely run out. When the Prussians became aware of this, they pursued them and put them all to the sword, except for two brothers.
