Chapter 95ChrP.4.95

The Raid on Wisenburgk

A Sudovian army plunders the fortress of Wisenburgk and withdraws after devastating the surrounding land.

The fortress of Wisenburgk — which the Prussians call Walewonaal — was situated in the land of Barthia on the bank of the river Gobrio, and an army from Sudovia and the regions of other nations came there to plunder, and after devastating the surrounding territory, withdrew.

The Traitor's Counsel

A treacherous member of the household urges the brothers to pursue the raiders and promises they will be found near the river Wangrapiab.

When this had been done, a certain member of the brothers' household advised them to follow without any fear. The brothers agreed and swiftly followed with their own army, but when they could not find them right away, they wanted to turn back. That traitor forbade it, promising in good faith that they would without a doubt find them near the river called Wangrapiab.

The Ambush at Wangrapiab

As the brothers draw near the river Wangrapiab, their enemies fall upon them as prearranged.

As they drew near to that place, just as had been prearranged, their enemies suddenly fell upon them.

The Last Stand on the Mountain

The brothers mount a fierce defense from a nearby mountain but are ultimately overcome, and twenty brothers along with their entire army are slain.

Seeing this, the brothers climbed a nearby mountain and defended themselves from there for a long time, fighting manfully, and very many were being killed on each side. At last, with the Lord permitting it, the Prussians prevailed and killed twenty brothers along with their entire army.

Cui loco dum appropinquarent, sicut preordinatum fuerat, inimici repente insilierunt in eos.
