Chapter 69ChrP.4.69

De edi/icacione castri in monte sancti Georgii in Carsovia.

The Building of the Castle on Saint George's Mountain

Husen, a man knowledgeable in both Prussian and Livonian affairs, is entrusted to the brothers of Livonia and orchestrates the joint construction of a castle on the mountain of Saint George in Garsovie in 1159, after which a garrison of brothers and men-at-arms from both lands is established to hold it.

Husen, who was taken from the land of Prussia, was given to the brothers of Livonia in magis trum. This man, because he had a thorough knowledge of both lands and, being affable, had been gracious in everyone's eyes, arranged that, under equal expenses and labors of the brothers from Livonia and Prussia, a castle was built in the year of our Lord 1159 in the land of Garsovie on the mountain of Saint George — which was then most necessary for the growth of the Christian faith. Once it was built, men who were lawful and experienced in arms were left there — brothers and men-at-arms from Prussia and Livonia — for the daily custody of the aforesaid castle.
