Chronicon Terrae Prussiae (Chronicle of the Prussian Land)/Book 4 · Tercia pars: De bellis fratrum domus Theutonice contra Pruthenos
Chapter 61ChrP.4.61

The Storming of Capostete

Guided by Tirsko, the commander of Königsberg surprises the land of Wohenstorph and violently storms the fortress of Capostete, reducing it to ashes with many slain and captured.

And because this same Tirsko had thorough knowledge of the road to the neighboring lands, the commander of Königsberg therefore entered the land of Wohenstorph unexpectedly, with an army of Sambians and Tirsko as their guide; and after ladders were set against the walls and everything needed for the assault was arranged in the proper manner, he violently stormed the fortress of Capostete and reduced it to ashes, with many men captured and killed in that fortress and its territory, and the whole territory laid waste by plundering and fire.12

Notes

  1. 1The abbreviation 'd' in the source (token 47) is unexpanded and uncertain — possibly 'decem' (ten) or another word. The translation omits it pending clarification.
  2. 2The final word of the source reads 'devastato'' with a trailing apostrophe, likely a scribal or transcription artifact. The normalized reading treats it as 'devastato'.
