De quodam miraculo.

The Blessed Sign at Christburg

Brother Heinrich Stango, commander of Christburg, receives a miraculous blessing from a crucifix while praying for a sign of God's grace, witnessed by a fellow brother hiding in the chapel.

About that Brother Heinrich Stango, commander of Christburg, it is reported as beyond doubt that while he was in the chapel on his knees before the altar, he was asking God to show him by some sign whether he had merited his grace. The crucifix of Jigneus, before which he prayed, extended its arm and, signing him with the cross, blessed him. Having seen this sign, he departed content.12 This was seen and made public by Brother Heindricusa, a priest of the same castle, who was at that time hiding in a corner of a certain chapel while praying.3

Notes

  1. 1graciam rendered as 'grace' per lexeme policy; the brother is asking whether he has merited God's favor — a bold petition that the miracle answers.
  2. 2exlendit is an unusual form, possibly extenderit ('extended'); translated as 'extended' following the candidate gloss.
  3. 3latitabal is an unusual form, likely latitabat ('was hiding'); translated as 'hiding' following the candidate gloss.
