De fratre Thammone de Balga et vita ejus.
The Hidden Life of Brother Thammo
Brother Thammo of Balga lived over half a century in the Teutonic Order, keeping himself within his castle for thirty years, practicing strict abstinence and fasting, and finally receiving the sacraments before a long, peaceful repose in the Lord.
In the year of our Lord 1321, Brother Thammo, born in Misna, was stationed in Ralga and had been in the order of the Teutonic House for fifty-six years. In the thirty years before his death, he never went beyond the boundaries of that castle. He drank no wine, mead, honeyed drink, or anything that could intoxicate. He wore a hairshirt. On bread and water he fasted on each of the saints' vigils. At last, after falling ill and receiving the Sacraments, he went without food for thirty-nine days and nights, and then he fell asleep in the Lord, happy.✦
