Brother Karl's Service and Gift
Brother Karl of Trier served as master general at the Roman court, skillfully handling difficult affairs of the order with eloquence and charm that won over even his enemies.
Brother Karl of Trier was the thirteenth master general; he served as master of the land of Prussia under Pope John XXII, and remained at the Roman court with many brothers for a year, where he dispatched many difficult affairs of the order. He knew French as well as his own tongue and spoke before the pope and cardinals without an interpreter. He was so affable and eloquent that even his enemies took delight in hearing him.
Illness and Homegoing
Karl fell ill at the Roman court, returned to Germany while still young, and died among his brothers in Trier, where he was buried.
He fell ill at the Roman court and was so weakened that, though he was still young, he returned to Germany. After a few years he died in the city of Trier among his own brothers and was buried there.
