De morte fratris Gundrami et plurium Lethowinorum.
The Martyrdom of Brother Gundramus
Brother Gundramus dies from mortal wounds after slaying Lethowian bandits, and two white doves are seen hovering above his body as it is brought back to the castle.
That same year Brother Gundramus, a small man in stature but spirited and thoroughly manly, was pursuing some Lethowian bandits with nine men-at-arms. They had despoiled ten Roman men and just as many horses in the district of Cristburgk Castle. When he attacked them in the wasteland, at the first encounter a certain Lethowinian wounded him with a lance so grievously that his entrails were laid open. Yet he did not give up the fight he had begun until every one of the Lethowians had been killed — and only then did he fall and die. When his men-at-arms were bringing his dead body back to Cristburgk Castle, the women who had been redeemed through him from the hands of the faithless declared that they had seen two white doves flying above his body in the air — doves that stood still when he stood still, and flew on as the procession moved forward.
