De edificacione castrorum Raganite et Scaloivitarum.
Castles Built for the Scalowitians
Brother Meneko builds two castles among the Scalowitians to secure the land and shelter the newly converted.
In the year of our Lord 1289, Brother Meneko, longing with the deepest desire of the Creator, came on the feast of Blessed George the Martyr to the land of the Scalowitians. For the praise and glory of God, he built a castle on a certain mountain above the Memel, called Landeshut — which in Latin means "guardianship of the land" — now commonly known as Raganita, named for the neighboring river. He left Brother Bertold there with chosen men to defend it. Not long after, he built a castle of the Scalowitians at the descent of the Memel, so that the Scalowitians, converted to the faith of Christ, might dwell in that same place.
