Chapter 16ChrP.4.16

De obsidione castri de Balga.

The Fall of Pyopso at Balga

The Prussian captain Pyopso besieges Balga but is struck down by a brother of the Teutonic Order, causing his army to flee in terror.

When word of this reached the ears of the Prussians, Pyopso, a certain Prussian captain of the Warmians, gathered the full strength of his army and besieged the castle called Balga; and because he was the leader of the others, he himself, like a war-commander before the rest in battle, wanted to make a show of himself, and as he approached the castle, he was struck by a weapon from one of the brothers, fell to the ground, and died. When the others saw what had happened, they were terrified, and with their undertaking left unfinished, they withdrew.12
