De destructione castri Weclitze^ et alterius propugnaculi.
The Prussian Onslaught and the Siege of Elbing
Prussian tribes sweep through Pogesia and Pomesania killing Christians and then attack Elbing, where a single act of valor by Wirtel turns the tide.
When the Pogesani, together with the Sudowitians and other Prussian tribes, had gathered a strong army, they swept through Pogesia and Pomesania at the beginning of the second rebellion, and wherever they found Christians there, they seized the women and children and killed them. Then, advancing, they attacked the castle at Elbing, and they were so relentless that they would certainly have taken the suburb by storm, had not a certain man called Wirtel pierced their captain through with a spear.
Retreat, Destruction of the Fortress, and the Fall of Weclitze
The Prussians retreat to a riverside fortress, destroy it with fire, and then advance on Weclitze, which they reduce to ashes after a fierce siege.
After he fell, they were thrown into confusion and retreated all the way to a certain fortress situated between the river Rogow and the river Wesecamc, at the place where the Weseca flows into the lake Drusine; and after a brief assault they destroyed it with fire, capturing and killing everyone except those who escaped by boat across the Drusina. After this, when they saw that everything was going their way, they advanced on the castle of Weclitze, situated above the river Rogow, and after a long and fierce siege and a vigorous defense by the besieged, they at last reduced it to ashes, capturing and killing everyone.
