The Completion and Dedication of the Tree of Love
Ramon finishes the Tree of the Philosophy of Love, presents it to the Lady of Love and to the scholars of Paris, records the date of completion, and prays that the book may serve true love and be multiplied in France through the King and Queen.
When Ramon had finished the Tree of the Philosophy of Love, he presented it to the Lady of Love; and the Lady and Ramon brought it to Paris, to the great lords and masters and to their students, and urged them to examine the Tree and to willingly accept it, and through it to bear fruit for the lovers of good and true love; and if in any matter Ramon had erred against true love and his Beloved, Ramon pleaded with the honored lord masters to correct it according to their philosophy of love and of knowledge.1 Ramon finished this book near the city of Paris, in the year M2 CC3 XC4 and VIII5 in the month of October; and he begs as much as he can with his Beloved that the book be kept safe by Him, and that through Him it may be by many6 good lovers served and honored, and that they may be made into strong fighters against false love, which is opposed to the love of God. And the Lady of Love told Ramon to present the Philosophy of Love in Latin to the most noble, wise, and good lord the King of France, and in the vernacular to the most noble, wise, and good Queen of France, so that they may multiply it in the kingdom of France, in honor of our Lady Saint Mary, who is the Sovereign Lady of Love.7
