1. De les difinicions d'amor

The Two Kinds of Definitions

This part is divided into simple and compound definitions, where simple definitions belong to each root of love and compound ones define love with each of its roots.

This part is divided into ii. parts: one is of simple definitions, the other is of compound definitions.1 Simple definitions are those that belong to each root of love; compound ones are those by which love is defined with each of its roots.

Why Definitions Are Given

Definitions are placed in the Tree of Love so that by knowing the beginnings and roots of love, one can discover its essence, nature, and secrets.

The reason we place definitions in this Tree of Love is so that with them we can know and discover the essence and nature of love, and its secrets; for whoever has knowledge of the beginnings and roots of a substance can have knowledge of that substance's essence and nature, since its beginnings reveal and show its secrets.
