A petition for the grace of holy abstinence and the subduing of the flesh to the spirit.
O Lord, who for our sake fasted for forty days and forty nights, give us grace to practice such abstinence that our flesh, being subdued to the spirit, may always obey your godly impulses in righteousness and true holiness, to your honor and glory, who live and reign as one God with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, which for our sake didst fast fourty days & fourty nights; Give us grace to use such abstinence, that our flesh being subdued to the spirit, we may ever obey thy godly motions, in righteousness and true holiness, to thy honour and glory, who livest and raignest one God with the Father and the Holy Ghost.
