The Shepherd's Faithful Love
The poet expresses complete trust in God's shepherd-like care, from green pastures to the valley of death, and concludes with confident praise.
The God of love is my shepherd, and he is the one who feeds me: while he is mine, and I am his, what can I want or need? He leads me to the tender grass, where I both feed and rest; then to the streams that gently pass—in both I have the best.✦ Or if I stray, he turns me back and sets my mind in order—and all this not because I deserve it, but for his holy name. Yes, even in death's dark, shady dwelling I can walk without fear: for you are with me; and your rod is there to guide me, your staff to support me.✦ No, you make me sit and dine even in the presence of my enemies; my head with oil, my cup with wine overflow day and night. Surely your sweet and wondrous love will measure all my days: and as it will never leave, neither will my praise.

Nay, thou dost make me sit and dine, Ev'n in my enemies sight: My head with oyl, my cup with wine Runnes over day and night.
Surely thy sweet and wondrous love Shall measure all my dayes: And as it never shall remove, So neither shall my praise.
