Psalm 129
A Cry from the Depths
The psalmist calls out to the Lord from deep distress, pleading for a merciful hearing.
From the depths of my distress, I called to the Lord of heaven. Hear and understand my voice; please turn your ears to my prayer at once and attend to it early and late. I ask this, Lord, because of your grace: hear my voice without delay.
The Hope of Forgiveness
Acknowledging human frailty, the psalmist finds hope in God's mercy and his blessed law.
If you, Lord, were to keep track of all our wickedness, the burden would be too much for us. Who could bear it, young or old? But mercy is always ready with you, Lord. Because of your blessed law, I wait for you with joy.
Waiting for the Lord
The soul finds refuge in God's word, calling all of Israel to trust in Him throughout the day.
My soul has waited for his word and placed its sure trust and hope in the Lord my God, day and night; he alone has been my refuge. From daybreak until late in the evening, Israel must put its trust in the Lord God, for this is truly his command.
Redemption and Deliverance
God's endless mercy and redemptive power bring healing and freedom from sin to his people.
For with the Lord there is always endless mercy, and his redemption brings healing to all who stay close to him. He also sets Israel free from all its evil; he delivers them from all their wickedness and sin and comes to their aid.
