Conformed to Christ in His Mysteries
May we be conformed to Christ in all His mysteries—from His session and second coming, to His sufferings, death, and resurrection—so that sin is mortified and we are raised to newness of life.
at the Session; to the Restorer of our faith, at the second coming.✦1 That Christ Himself may be formed in us, so that we may become conformed to His image in our works, to His conception in faith, to His birth in humility; for His sufferings, to have sympathy with Him as with one who suffers for us; to suffer for Him when it is well-pleasing to Him.✦✦✦ To have an aversion to sin, as the cause of these sufferings.2 To avenge, crucify, mortify, and bury sin in us.✦3 That we may be made conformed to His descent into hell, often going down into hell by meditation; to His resurrection, rising again to newness of life;✦✦4
Seek the Things Above
May we ascend with Christ, seeking the things that are above and drawing nearer to salvation.
to His Ascension: wise, and seek-5 seeking the things that are above, and✦6 nearer to salvation;
Examine Ourselves
With careful judgment, let us examine ourselves.

Scripture echoes
- ↩Heb.12.2 — fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- ↩Gal.4.19 — My children, for whom I am again in labor pains until Christ is formed in you—
- ↩Rom.8.29 — For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
- ↩Phil.3.10;1Pet.4.13 — to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death 1Pet.4.13 — But rejoice insofar as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may rejoice with exultation at the revelation of his glory.
- ↩Gal.5.24;Rom.6.6;Rom.8.13;Col.3.5 — And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Rom.6.6 — We know this: our old self was crucified with him, so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we might no longer be enslaved to sin. Rom.8.13 — For if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Col.3.5 — Put to death, therefore, the parts of you that belong to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.
- ↩Acts.2.27;1Pet.3.19 — because you will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. 1Pet.3.19 — in which also he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
- ↩Rom.6.4 — Therefore we were buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we might walk in newness of life.
- ↩Col.3.1-Col.3.2 — If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Col.3.2 — Set your minds on the things above, not on the things on the earth.
- ↩1Cor.11.31 — But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged.
Notes
- 1 ↩nostre read as nostrae ('our'). in sessione may complete the previous section's Advocato nostro ('to our Advocate, at the Session'); kept as printed here.
- 2 ↩Antipathiam: aversion/repugnance rather than modern psychological 'antipathy'; rendered as aversion to keep moral force plain.
- 3 ↩Uleisci read as ulcisci ('to avenge / take vengeance on').
- 4 ↩vitze read as vitae ('of life'), yielding ad vitae novitatem.
- 5 ↩Source reads 'Ascensionl' (almost certainly Ascensioni) and ends mid-word at 'quie-', continued in the next section as 'rentes ea qui sursum sunt' = quaerentes ea quae sursum sunt ('seeking the things that are above,' Col 3:1–2). Rendered as the continuing conformity series after Descent and Resurrection.
- 6 ↩Section is a mid-word line break: previous ends in quie- and this begins rentes, almost certainly quaerentes. ea qui is treated as ea quae (neuter plural with sursum sunt).
- 7 ↩Source ends mid-word at hyphenated 'dijudi-'. Read as dijudicemus/dijudicare (examine/judge carefully); translation supplies the most plausible completion.
