Scripture echoes

  1. ↩Rom.14.9 — For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
  2. ↩Rom.14.8 — For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we belong to the Lord.
  3. ↩Rom.14.8 — For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we belong to the Lord.
  4. ↩Ps.9.9-Ps.9.10 — And he will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with equity. Ps.9.10 — And may the LORD be a refuge for the crushed, a refuge in times of trouble.
  5. ↩John.1.14 — And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  6. ↩John.1.14 — And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  7. ↩1Thess.3.2 — and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,
  8. ↩1Pet.1.12 — To them it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.
  9. ↩Rev.2.1 — To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven golden lampstands.
  10. ↩Rev.2.5 — Remember, then, from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the first works. But if not, I am coming to you, and I will remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
  11. ↩Rev.3.2 — Be watchful, and strengthen the rest that were about to die; for I have not found your works complete before my God.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Vers. is retained as a liturgical rubric (Versicle), not as prose meaning.
  2. 2 ↩Source token '8.]' looks like editorial/page apparatus, not a Latin prayer sentence.
  3. 3 ↩Trailing 'Psa/' is treated as a truncated Psalm citation label (see s2–s3: ix. 9), not as part of the petition itself.
  4. 4 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the Roman-numeral chapter of a Psalm citation continued from s1 ('Psa/') and completed in s3 ('9.').
  5. 5 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the verse number completing the citation 'Psa ix. 9' begun in s1–s2.
  6. 6 ↩Continues the petition begun in the previous section: Recordare omnium in extrema necessitate, tuoque auxilio indigentium — 'Remember all who are in extreme need, and who need your help.'
  7. 7 ↩Medieval/source spelling gratie read as gratiae (genitive). Trailing 'Jo.' is treated as a truncated John citation label completed by s2–s3 ('i. 14'), not as part of the invocation itself.
  8. 8 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the Roman-numeral chapter of a John citation continued from s1 ('Jo.') and completed in s3 ('14.').
  9. 9 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the verse number completing the citation 'Jo. i. 14' begun in s1–s2.
  10. 10 ↩Trailing source surface '1 7ess.' is almost certainly a corrupt/OCR reading of '1 Thess.' (completed by s5–s6: 'iii. 2'); translation renders that intended citation label, not the garbled digits.
  11. 11 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the Roman-numeral chapter of a 1 Thessalonians citation continued from s4 ('1 7ess.' → 1 Thess.) and completed in s6 ('2.').
  12. 12 ↩Not an independent prayer clause; almost certainly the verse number completing the citation '1 Thess. iii. 2' begun in s4–s5.
  13. 13 ↩Source surface 'E Pet 1 12,' is treated as a corrupt/OCR form of 'I Pet. 1:12' / '1 Pet. 1:12'; no continuous prayer prose beyond the citation label.
  14. 14 ↩Source surface zégrotantes is almost certainly a corrupt reading of aegrotantes (“those who are sick/ailing”); translation follows that intended sense.
  15. 15 ↩Source 'tuj' read as 'tui' (your); 'Psal.' treated as the citation label 'Psalm'.
  16. 16 ↩Source 'xxvin.' read as Roman numeral XXVIII (28), almost certainly a garbled psalm number.
  17. 17 ↩Source 'tu:e' read as 'tuae' (your).
  18. 18 ↩Trailing 'ev.' is treated as a citation or edition tag, not part of the address; sense is taken from the Latin clause alone.
  19. 19 ↩Reading 'quz' as 'quae' (those things which); the question mark looks like a compositor/OCR artifact on an imperative clause.
  20. 20 ↩Greek residual 'Τῇ' is not rendered; it may be a bilingual-layout fragment or section tag from the printed witness.
  21. 21 ↩Normalized corrupt forms czetera→cetera and quie→quae. Neighboring section PrecesPriv.1.25.11 continues with quae moritura erant (Rev 3:2), so abjecturus eras may be a separate corrupt reading or a mixed/garbled witness rather than the standard Vulgate continuation.
  22. 22 ↩Normalized reading taken as quae moritura erant (continuing the previous clause); source has a leading quotation mark and que for quae.
  23. 23 ↩Likely a citation abbreviation for Revelation/Apocalypse; left as printed, not expanded.
  24. 24 ↩Appears to be a damaged citation numeral, perhaps xxi 2 (or similar) after Rev.; left as the supplied reading because the intended reference is uncertain.
  25. 25 ↩Source reads 'ETXAI KAOHMEPINAT', almost certainly corrupted Greek Εὐχαὶ καθημεριναί (Daily Prayers), matching chapter title Preces Quotidianae; not Latin.
