Preces Quotidianae

Sevenfold Deliverance

A prayer for rescue from distress seven times, culminating in protection from all evil.

7. Rescue me from distress six times over, and the seventh time, so that no evil may touch me.

Consecration and Dependence

Four numbered petitions for holiness, royal priesthood, obedience to God's word, and reliance on Scripture rather than bread alone.

1. Holiness to the Lord. 2. Let us become a royal priesthood for You.✦ 3. By Your word we will go in and come out.1 4. Let us not set our life on bread alone, but on every word that comes from Your mouth.

Forgiveness and Protection

A plea for the removal of transgressions and for deliverance from provocation, bitterness, and deadly plagues.

. Take away our transgressions, iniquities, and sins.2 6. Not into provocation.3 Not into bitterness.4 7. From the destroying Angel, and from every deadly plague, Deliver us, Lord.

Praise, Hope, and Guidance

A series of prayers blessing God's name, asking for hope and a portion in the land of the living, seeking the Spirit's guidance, and trusting in God's provision.

1. May Your Name be blessed, now and forever:5 From the east all the way to the west, may the Name be praised. Yours.6 9. Be our hope and our portion in the land of the living. 5.7 3. Teach us to do your will, for you are our God; may your good Spirit lead us into the right land.8 4. The eyes of all look to You in hope, Lord, that You may give them

Scripture echoes

  1. ↩1Pet.2.9 — But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩In ore Tuo rendered as 'By Your word' (mouth as speech/command); a more literal 'in Your mouth' is possible but less natural for the going-in/coming-out idiom.
  2. 2 ↩Source reads 'mostra'; translated as the intended 'nostra' (our).
  3. 3 ↩Elliptical Ne in + accusative after the preceding petition to take away sins; rendered as a brief prohibitory/purpose line rather than expanded into a full clause.
  4. 4 ↩Parallel elliptical Ne in + accusative; amaritudinem kept as bitterness (spiritual embitterment), not merely sourness of temper.
  5. 5 ↩Source reads nune for nunc and secula for saecula; rendered as the intended blessing formula.
  6. 6 ↩Fragment completing the previous line: '…laudetur Nomen Tuum' ('…let Your Name be praised'). 'Tuum' is the possessive agreeing with 'Nomen'.
  7. 7 ↩Source reads 'ΤΑΙ 5.]' (Greek letters / brackets), not clean Latin. Treated as a corrupt numeral/heading; only '5.' is recoverably parallel to nearby prayer numbers.
  8. 8 ↩Normalized source has a stray quotation mark before Tuam ('voluntatem "Tuam'); ignored as print/OCR noise.
