Preces Quotidianae

Consolation in Suffering

The apostle Paul testifies that as the sufferings of Christ overflow in him, so too his consolation overflows through Christ.

For just as the sufferings of Christ have abounded in me, so also through Christ abounds✦ my consolation.✦ 2 Cor. 1.✦ 4, 5.

Thanksgiving for Wisdom

Daniel gives thanks to God for granting wisdom and strength and for revealing the word he sought.

To you, God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise you, because you have given me wisdom and strength in some measure; and you have shown me what I asked of you,✦12 and you opened the word to me.✦

Our Identity in Christ

A series of declarations affirming the believer's identity: redeemed by Christ's blood, purchased as a servant, adopted as a son, created as God's work, bearing God's image, sealed by the Name, made a temple of the Spirit, and a member of the Church.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩confiteor rendered as 'I give thanks' (biblical confiteor + dative), not as sacramental confession of sin.
  2. 2 ↩qui rogavi Te taken as 'what I asked of you' (intended quae/quod); the relative as printed is awkward if read strictly as 'who'.
  3. 3 ↩emptio = purchase/buying; servus emptionis is the servant who belongs to that purchase—one bought as a slave/servant, not a servant who buys.
  4. 4 ↩Source reads 'Signaenlum', which is not classical/medieval Latin as printed; most plausible intended form is 'Signaculum' (seal).
  5. 5 ↩Source 'Ecclesiz' is a clear typographical/OCR corruption of 'Ecclesiae' (genitive of Ecclesia).
