Preces Quotidianae

Terce: The Spirit Sent and Renewed

At the third hour we recall the Spirit poured out on the Apostles and plead that the same Spirit be kept and renewed in us daily.

You who at the third hour the Holy Spirit✦ your own you sent down upon the Apostles; cf.1 ii.2 15.✦ Do not take that same Spirit from us; sa.✦34 11.✦ 11. But renew him daily deep within us, and keep us.5

Sext: The Cross and the Outstretched Church

At the sixth hour we remember Christ nailing our sins to the cross and the sheet let down from heaven, and we ask to be received into the Church and brought to heaven.

Ninth Hour: Death, Mortification, and the Hour of Prayer

At the ninth hour, mindful of Christ's death for our sins, we ask Him to put to death our earthly members and to hear us in the hour of prayer.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Trailing 'cf.' is treated as a citation book-abbreviation fragment (likely Act.), not as Latin to expand.
  2. 2 ↩Source 'τι.' is almost certainly a corrupt chapter numeral in the citation chain cf. τι. 15, most plausibly Acts ii. / 2 given the third-hour / Apostles content.
  3. 3 ↩'ne auferas' is a prohibitive petition (do not take away), not a purpose clause.
  4. 4 ↩Trailing 'sa.' is kept as a printed citation-abbreviation fragment, most likely a damaged Psalm tag before the following '11. 11.'
  5. 5 ↩'in visceribus nostris' is biblical inmost being; rendered 'deep within us' rather than anatomical 'bowels'. Object of 'renova' is the same Spirit from the preceding petition.
  6. 6 ↩Normalized 'ccelum' as caelum (heaven). Trailing '4cf.' read as OCR for Act. (Acts), matching the neighboring Acts 10 sheet vision and Acts 10:16.
  7. 7 ↩Trailing '4o.' read as OCR for Jo. (John). 'Reguli filium' is the regulus's son of John 4; the next section's '52.' completes John 4:52.
  8. 8 ↩Read 'hzreat' as 'haereat' (cling/linger); OCR corruption of hære/haereat.
  9. 9 ↩Source reads '84.'; Mark 15 has no v. 84. Most plausible intended verse is 34 (ninth-hour cry), given the ninth-hour Passion context.
  10. 10 ↩Source 'n.' is almost certainly OCR for 'ii.' (Hebrews 2), given the following '9.' and the 'taste death' echo of Hebrews 2:9.
  11. 11 ↩Source reads "m."; in context of Col. … 5 and Col 3:5, the intended chapter marker is almost certainly "iii."
  12. 12 ↩Normalized sense from corrupt "quiequid voluntati Tus": intended "quicquid voluntati Tuae" (whatever is opposed to Your will). The petition continues the preceding imperative Mortifica.
  13. 13 ↩Trailing source fragment "“εἰ." looks like a broken Greek quote or book abbreviation before iii. 1; left untranslated as unusable Greek. The sense points to Acts 3:1 (the ninth hour, the hour of prayer).
  14. 14 ↩"orationis votique nos compotes redde" is the classical voti compos idiom: make us obtainers of our prayer and vow (grant the object of both).
