Spiritual knowledge and joy are the inevitable fruits of the virtues and the tears shed during the ascetic life.
The harvest is the fruit of the seeds, and knowledge is the fruit of the virtues; and just as tears follow the sowing, so joy follows the harvest.✦

Καρπὸς μὲν σπερμάτων τὰ δράγματα, ἀρετῶν δὲ ἡ γνῶσις· καὶ ὡς ἕπεται τοῖς σπέρμασι δάκρυα, οὕτω τοῖς δράγμασιν ἡ χαρά.
