The Influence of Spirits
The presence of angels fosters spiritual contemplation, while the presence of demons leads the soul toward shameful fantasies.
Angels rejoice when evil diminishes, but demons rejoice when virtue does; for the angels are servants of mercy and love, while the demons are subject to anger and hatred. When the former draw near, they fill us with spiritual contemplation; when the latter approach, they plunge the soul into shameful fantasies.
