The Dual Nature of Passion

Evagrius distinguishes between bodily and soulful passions, prescribing self-control and love as their respective remedies.

The passions of the soul are triggered by other people, while the passions of the body arise from the body itself. Self-control curbs the passions of the body, and spiritual love curbs those of the soul.
