VISIO QUINTA, cap. XXI
The Voice of the Lord over the Waters
The Lord's voice thunders over the waters, and the voice carries the power of the word so that what it announces is fully understood.
"The voice of the Lord over the waters, the God of majesty thundered, the voice of the Lord over many waters." This is how you should think about it: the voice sounds first and carries the power of the word within itself, so that whatever it announces is understood with full knowledge.
The Lord Revealed through Prophets and the Son
The Lord over the prophets reveals heavenly and earthly secrets and is powerfully known through sending his Son, then sends the Holy Spirit upon the apostles so their teaching fills the earth.
So the voice of the one who rules over all, over the waters—that is, over the prophets—comes, laying bare to them many secrets both heavenly and earthly; and the same Lord, the God of majesty, being over all, is powerful, and became powerfully known when he sent his Son into the world. Then also that Lord of all peoples sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the rest of the believers who had been multiplied in the Catholic faith, so that their teaching would penetrate the whole globe of the earth.
The Mystery of the Incarnate Word
People beheld the Son of God in human form but did not know his conception and birth, yet through the intelligible word the God of majesty is known, just as the Lord of the prophets is known through their voices.
For in human form people beheld the Son of God, but they didn't know how he had been conceived and born. But the voice is also somewhat foreign and unintelligible; the word, however, is known and intelligible, through which a person in faith knows the God of majesty, who sent prophecy into the world—which the water also signifies—and so the Lord of the prophets is known through their voices.
Light Dawns: Genesis Fulfilled in the Church
God's words 'Let there be light' and the first day of creation are fulfilled in the rise of the Christian faith, the apostolic preaching, and the separation of the faithful from unbelievers.
How the words of God speaking, "Let there be light," and the rest up to that point, "And there was evening and morning, one day," were fulfilled in the rise of the Christian faith, in the preaching of the apostles, and in the separation of the faithful from unbelieving others, according to the allegorical sense.✦✦

« Vox Domini super aquas, Deus majestatis intonuit, vox Domini super aquas multas.
