Clouds and Winds Guarding Humanity
The four tongues of cloud, drawn from the principal winds on every side, channel streams of life and protection toward the human person while restraining all that is contrary, so that creation is held within its appointed bounds by God's preserving order.
And so the same clouds on the right side of the image mentioned above, like two tongues separated from each other, bring forth streams from themselves and direct them as rivulets into the wheel mentioned above and toward that same image, for the salvation of the human person — like two fortifications set apart from one another, just as the two principal winds in those same regions stand distant from each other. From these same clouds, which appear toward the south, certain exhalations proceed into the common air through which diverse living things are sustained and grow, and they are directed toward the human person, because that human being, just like other creatures, cannot do without the higher help and service. But on the left side, from those same clouds marked in that place, two tongues also, somewhat separated from each other, turn toward the same wheel and toward that very image, as though by certain streams flowing from themselves — so that whatever is contrary may be kept away from the human person. That is, from both the left and the right, from the clouds that face northward, two restraining bands of the fortifications, separated from each other, proceed, like the principal winds of those same regions which are separated from each other, just as was said above concerning the others. These are the things that stand firm in the world — namely the human person and the remaining creatures — which God, as he has arranged them, preserves. These four tongues proceed from the four principal winds, because they breathe out to hold the clouds in place: just as the principal winds strengthen and sustain the entire firmament, so also these states — which appear as tongues because of their movement — contain the clouds that are beneath the firmament, so that they do not overflow beyond their bounds, drifting off this way or that.

Unde et eaedem nubes in dextra parte praedictae imaginis tanquam duas linguas ab invicem separatas de se proferentes, ab eis ut quosdam rivulos in supradictam rotam, et versus eamdem imaginem dirigunt, quoniam ad salutem hominis, velut duae munitiones ab invicem disjunctae, sicut et duo principales venti in eisdem partibus a se distant, de ipsis nubibus quae versus australem partem apparent exeunt, ita ut etiam de ipsis nubibus quaedam spiramina in communem aerem, per quem diversae creaturae vegetantur, procedant, ad hominemque se dirigant, quia et ille scilicet homo, quemadmodum et aliae creaturae, superiori adjutorio ac ministerio carere non potest.
