The Winds That Sustain the World
The principal and adjacent winds preserve the whole world and the human being, in whom all creatures lie hidden.
They show themselves blowing into the aforementioned wheel and toward the aforementioned human image, because the winds — both the principal ones and those adjacent to them — by their power preserve the whole world and the human being, in whom all creatures lie hidden, so that they do not fall into failure.
The Judgment That Rouses the Winds
The adjacent winds blow steadily as wings of the principal winds, while the principal winds are stirred up by God's judgment to execute vengeance through heat, flooding, lightning, thunder, hail, cold, drought, and rain.
For the adjacent winds are, as it were, the wings of the principal winds, and they never cease blowing steadily, however gently, with the air; but the principal winds, with the greatest force, are stirred up only by the judgment of God for vengeance toward the end of the world. For the south wind and the north wind, by the judgment of God, are sent upon their adjacent winds according as God's will determines — the south wind, namely, with great heat and great flooding; the north wind, however, with lightning, with thunder, with hail, and with cold. For the principal winds — that is, the east and west winds — stir up their adjacent winds more gently and more slowly to execute God's judgments; yet when they are roused by God's will to do so, they act now in summer, whether through cold, or through drought, or again in winter, whether through heat, or through rain, or through similar harmful things that are adverse and damaging to the earth and to human beings.
Winds Beneath the Earth
Just as the winds hold the earth by their power and make humans understand their actions, so too they scatter underground, moving the earth where hollows have no outlet.
And just as the winds hold the circle of the earth by their power, so also in their roles they make a human being know and understand what they are about to do. But when the same winds send their blasts over the earth, they also scatter them underground, and entering certain underground hollows in some places, since these have no outlet, they move the earth; but where there is an outlet, there they seem to rise up from certain people — though they don't actually rise there, but rather, as was said above, dispersing themselves in the upper elements, both beneath the earth and above it.
