Caput 8
The Miraculous Transfer to Várad
While the faithful hesitated to move the saint's body due to heat and distance, they fell asleep and the cart miraculously carried itself to Várad, leading them to give thanks.
But while the faithful still hesitated over transferring his body to Várad—where he had ordered that he be buried—because of the scorching heat of the dog days and the length of the road, and while it seemed they should turn aside to the church of Alba, which was nearer, they came again to a lodging, where, exhausted by the toil and the sorrow, they fell asleep. And when they were heavy with sleep, the cart in which his body had been laid was being carried straight toward Waradin without any animal drawing it. But when they woke and could not find the cart, they were deeply distressed and began to rush about through the area; and they found the cart running of its own accord toward Waradin, with the holy body laid in it. So when they saw the miracle—namely, that the body of the blessed confessor was being carried by divine power to the place where he himself had chosen his burial—they gave thanks to him who is wonderful in his saints, and without any hesitation turned their journey back toward Waradin.
