¶ Of the Churche.
The Visible Church and Its Fallibility
The visible Church is defined by the pure preaching of God's word and the right administration of the sacraments, yet even the great churches, including Rome, have erred in life and faith.
The visible Church of Christ is a congregation of faithful people where the pure word of God is preached and the sacraments are duly administered according to Christ's ordinance, in all those things necessarily required for the same. As the church of Jerusalem, of Alexandria, and of Antioch has erred, so also the Church of Rome has erred—not only in their way of life, but also in matters of their faith.
