¶ The doctrine of holy scrip ture is sufficient to Saluaciō.
The Sufficiency of Scripture
Holy Scripture alone contains all that is necessary for salvation, and nothing outside it may be required as an article of faith.
Holy Scripture contains everything necessary for salvation. So whatever is neither read in it nor can be proved from it — even if the faithful sometimes accept it as godly and useful for order and decency — still, no one ought to be constrained to believe it as an article of faith, or treat it as required for salvation.1

HOlie Scripture conteineth all thinges necessarye to saluatiō: So that what soeuer is neither read therein, nor maye be proued thereby, although it be sometyme receyued of the faithfull, as Godlie, and profitable for an ordre, and comelinesse: Yet no manne ought to be const…eigned to beleue it as an artycle of faith, or repute it requisite to the necessitie of Saluacion.
Notes
- 1 ↩Source reading 'const…eigned' is truncated; rendered as 'constrained' (Early Modern 'constreigned'), the only plausible intended form in this stock sufficiency formula.

Rule yourself daily, not just on retreat
Chosen Portion turns the mirror into a daily practice — a short reading and examining question each morning before you lead anyone.
Chosen Portion makes the mirror daily: the ruler-formation questions this collection preserves become a two-minute morning examination in the app.
- A daily formation reading drawn from centuries of counsel to those in authority
- One pointed examination question a day — two minutes, before the meetings start
- Track your practice over weeks and watch the examined life become a habit
