Why the holy goste is called holy.

The Master's Question

The Master asks why the Holy Spirit is called holy.

Master. Why is he called holy?

The Scholar's Answer

The Scholar explains that the Spirit is called holy not only for his own holiness but because he makes the chosen of God holy, and this is why Scripture calls him the Spirit of sanctification.

Not only for his own holiness, but because through him the chosen of God, and members of Christ, are made holy. And therefore the Scriptures have called him the Spirit of sanctification, or of making holy.✦
