A Short Catechisme, or Playne Instruction (1553)

The Master's Invitation

The Master acknowledges the Scholar's grasp of the Creed and announces further questioning.

Master. Well, I see you've covered the chief Articles of our religion, and have set out, as in a short abridgment, the Creed that you rehearsed. Now therefore I'll ask you questions on certain points.

The Scholar's Willing Response

The Scholar humbly accepts the Master's proposal, asking for deeper instruction and reinforcement.

Scholar. Do as you please, Master: for you can instruct me more thoroughly in those things I don't fully understand; and remind me of what I've forgotten; and imprint more deeply in my mind such things as haven't taken firm hold there.
