Chapter 25PonetCatechism.1.25

Why wee cal God fa ther.

God Our Father by Creation and New Birth

The master asks why we call God Father, and the scholar answers that he is our Father both by creating us and by begetting us again through the Spirit unto eternal life.

Master. Why do you call God Father? Scholar. For two reasons: first, because he made us all in the beginning and gave us all life; the second is more significant, because through his Holy Spirit and through faith he has begotten us again, making us his children, giving us his kingdom and the inheritance of everlasting life with Jesus Christ, his own true and natural Son.
