Chapter 114PonetCatechism.1.114

¶ Al men shall not be saued at the length.

The Error of Universal Salvation

Those who teach that all people will eventually be saved after punishment are condemned.

They also deserve condemnation for trying to revive the dangerous opinion that everyone—no matter how ungodly—will eventually be saved after suffering for their sins for a time appointed by God's justice.12

THey also are worthy of condēnation, who endeuout at thys tyme to restore the daūgerous opinion, that al men, be theineues so vngodly, shal at length be saued, whē they haue suffered paynes for theyr synnes, a certayne tyme appoynted b… Gods iustice.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source reading "be theineues so vngodly" is corrupt; rendered as the Early Modern idiom "be they never so ungodly" (however ungodly they may be).
  2. 2 ↩Source ends "appoynted b… Gods iustice"; the truncated preposition is restored as "by God's justice."
