Chapter 24FCF.1.24

XXIII.

The Fulfillment of the Law

While the ceremonial figures of the Old Testament have ceased, their substance is fulfilled in Christ, and the Law remains a vital guide for the believer's life and faith.

XXIII. We believe that all the figures of the law came to an end at the coming of Jesus Christ.1 But although the ceremonies are no longer in use, their substance and truth remain for us in the person of the One in whom all fulfillment rests. Furthermore, we must make use of the Law and the Prophets, both to order our lives and to be confirmed in the promises of the Gospel.

XXIII.

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Here "figures" means the ceremonial types and shadows of the Mosaic law.
