The speaker petitions Mary to safeguard their body from sin, recalling the joy of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.

Pray to your Son to keep my body from every misdeed, for the sacred joy you had when, with1 five2 barley loaves and two3 fish, five thousand men were filled in the meadow.✦4

The Closing Ave Maria

Notes

  1. 1 ↩Source segment ends mid-phrase after 'quant de' because the witness uses dotted Roman numerals (.v., .ii.) for 5 and 2; the intact section reading is: 'Que mon corps gard de toutes meffaçons / Pries ton filz, pour la joye sacrée / Qu'eus quant de .v. pains d'orge et .ii. poissons / Cinq mille hommes replanis en la prée. / Ave Maria.'
  2. 2 ↩Witness form '.v.' is a medieval numeral for 5, not a free-standing sentence.
  3. 3 ↩Witness form '.ii.' is a medieval numeral for 2, not a free-standing sentence.
  4. 4 ↩'replanis' = filled / fed full; 'prée' = meadow, matching the grassy place of the feeding (cf. John 6:10).
