I am a poor pilgrim, bearing the burden of Adam's sin. From the moment I received my staff, I have only had three things from my grave of birth: You little child, you know, Jesus, How often my tender food rejoiced. I have in my youth made the journey beautiful and wide, And thought that the world's journeying path Had no obstacles or difficulties, I often thought that longing flowed, Where the way turned green and soft, Yet that slippery and vile path Was there to tread upon, Yet I struck well and passed by The safe path of Jesus.
