Notes

  1. 1 ↩Old Catalan «Paor ac lamic» is the recurrent Llull idiom «fear had/seized the Friend» (ac = hac, from haver), not «fear and the Friend». Parallel: LlullArbreAmor.1.39.5; 1.72.2–3. «a sostenir» taken as the feared undertaking (bearing the labors).
  2. 2 ↩pasciencia is read as paciència (patience); gloriós amar rendered as 'to love gloriously' (substantival infinitive: glorious loving).
  3. 3 ↩A ymagenar e sentir sabsentà lamar de lamic is read as personified Love withdrawing to the faculties Imagination and Feeling; alternate parse (withdrawal from those faculties) is less likely in this allegory. ymagenar' treated as ymagenar. Catalan ne = nor (not Latin ne).
  4. 4 ↩Source 'j.' read as medieval numeral 'i.' (1); may be a segmentation artifact rather than a true numbered item.
  5. 5 ↩Isolated '1.' is likely a remnant of the corrupt source sequence '.1.' between 'viij.' and 'lebrer', not a true numbered item.
  6. 6 ↩Source 'joyesf' treated as corrupt 'joyes' (jewels); the final -f is almost certainly OCR/print error.
